The Gardens on Tenth is inviting the Altona community to join its tenants for an evening of live music, food, and dancing at their Street Dance on Friday! (Aug 21)
The community event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at 235 5th Street NE in Altona, with food available throughout the evening and live music from the Pylons from 6 to 8 p.m.
Carissa Kiansky, life enrichment coordinator at the Gardens on Tenth, said the event was planned as a way to connect tenants with their families and the wider community.
“We wanted to organize something that would bring our tenants and families and the whole community together,” Kiansky said. “So we thought music, dancing and good food would be a wonderful way to connect people.”
She said holding the celebration outdoors also offers a chance to enjoy summer and make some new memories.
Dancing, or tapping your feet
Kiansky is hoping plenty of Gardens on Tenth tenants will hit the dance floor when the Pylons take the stage.
Some, however, have already told her they have a different style of dancing in mind.
“Some of them said, well, we’ll just tap our feet. That’s our form of dancing, but we just hope everyone does anything they’re comfortable with,” she said. “So yeah, if that’s dancing or sitting and tapping their feet, that’s great.”
The event is open to the entire community, not only Gardens on Tenth tenants and their families.
Food and community connections
The Ice Cream Hut and Pizza Haven will provide food during the street dance.
The Ice Cream Hut will serve hot dogs and ice cream, while Pizza Haven will offer pizza and drinks. Kiansky said all items will cost $7 or less, and both vendors will accept cash, debit, and credit.
While there is no admission price for the street dance, donations are welcome. Kiansky said money collected will help cover event costs and support programs and activities for Gardens on Tenth tenants.
“It’s also a great opportunity to connect with our tenants, strengthen the relationship between the gardens and the community,” she said.
The Gardens on Tenth will also have an information booth at the event for people interested in learning about its housing options and service programs.
“We want people that are new that don’t know about the gardens. We want them to come and visit and see what it’s all about” Kiansky said.
