The library located in the new Gardens On Tenth building in Altona will now be known as the Ted and Linie Friesen Library. That honour was bestowed on the couple at a special ceremony on Tuesday where a plaque was unveiled to officially mark the occasion.

Gardens supporters Phil and Ilse Ens of Winkler owned the naming rights to the library and chose to name it after Ted and Linie to honour the Friesen’s love for education, arts and culture.

“It’s overwhelming and so special,” said Linie Friesen. “We of course are delighted to be in the Gardens and to have this honour is the icing on the cake. Culture and art have been part of our life all these years, travelling all over the world and seeing so many wonderful things and we enjoyed it all.”

Ted Friesen was unable to attend the ceremony due to health issues but conveyed his appreciation to Gardens officials and indicated that he was humbled by the honour.

“It’s a pity that Ted can’t be here today but I’m thankful he was alert when he was told of this ceremony, so it’s been very special,” said Linie.

The library is located on the 4th floor of the Gardens building.
